Over recent months Otago Regional Council has been consulting on a proposal to set minimum flows for the Arrow catchment, affecting how much water can be taken from the river for things like irrigation. The proposal reflects values identified earlier by the community, including aesthetics and recreation.
ORC is seeking feedback on options for flow levels presented at a consultation meeting in December. The starting point has been identified as 800 L/s, below which nuisance algae becomes difficult to manage and many of the values identified could be affected.
We encourage everyone who attended the meeting, as well as other community members, to make a submission by Friday 26 January. You can find more information and the submission form at https://www.orc.govt.nz/plans-policies-reports/regional-plans/water/arrow-catchment-and-wakatipu-basin-aquifers
